Happy 30th Birthday Daddy!!

Happy Birthday Babe!! You are officially an "old man", the way you put it!

So our party down at the lake and an outdoor BBQ didn't happen; the weather just wouldn't cooperate and we live in a 1000sq ft condo so there is no way that we could have moved 30 people inside. We had a offer from a friend to use his house for the party (thank god for good friends) and I think a great time was had by all!

Not only is this a special birthday for Clint as it's his 30th, but it is also his first birthday with his baby girl!

Happy Birthday, I love you Daddy!

Bye Bye Boob (Kinda....)

On Tuesday I took Makayla and had her weighed; a whopping 13lbs, 11oz. So in the last two and a half weeks she has only gained 8oz, not much, but better than not gaining anything like the two weeks previous. As per the Doctors instructions at her 6 month appointment, for the last few weeks I have been trying different powdered formulas, they all taste NASTY...like chemicals. The other night I had to run to the post office which is inside Shoppers so I grabbed a can of the liquid concentrated formula. I mixed up two ounces and after 10 minutes of screaming and whipping her head back and forth she actually drank it!!!!! Last night she ate a whole 4 ounces!! Good going little lady! I guess I am going to have to buy the pre-mixed, and guess what...it doesn't taste like chemicals, strange! I am still breastfeeding as well, but I am trying to give her a bottle at bedtime in hopes that she will sleep through the night (that's a whole other story)!

On The Mend

My Mom has been staying with us since she was released from the hospital after getting her pacemaker. Two days ago she took off the steri-strips and this is what is underneath.

Still really tender, but definitely looking good!

Bath Time

Since Makayla was born she has really loved having her bath (minus the first one at the hospital). Now that she can sit up and play she loves bath time even more! She tends to lean forward to reach for her toys and then she face plants and goes under!

It's moments like this that make me realize just how fast she is growing up....sniff sniff

BBQ Time

I love summer! I love the heat (when we get it), I love it being light outside, I love being outdoors, but most of all I love the smell of BBQ! We use our BBQ all winter but the smell just isn't the same!

Just a little message from Makayla

MMMMM...look at those burgers!

Daddy give me some!!

"I will get you"

Time to clean up...or play peek-a-boo!

New Toy

This past weekend Auntie Cindy and Grandma Linda came up for a visit! As usual Makayla was spoiled; what a lucky little lady! She received a new bikini, a onesie, some dishes/sippy cups and a NEW TOY! Makayla is getting so good at sitting up without falling over...she sat playing for probably close to an hour!

Thanks Auntie Cindy!

A Pacemaker...

So after being in the hospital since last Thursday, my Mom had her surgery on Tuesday, they implanted a pacemaker and she was released this afternoon. I have told her that she needs to come stay with us for a while, it is better than sitting at home by herself...at least here she can be waited on a little and hang out with Makayla! Mom isn't allowed to shower for 7-10 days, to drive for a week, lift more than 5 pounds for three weeks and the list goes on...Oh well...she deserves a little time off from work; too bad it takes something like this to get some time off!

Life Can Change In The Blink Of An Eye - Part 2

I have had a few life lessons in the last little while, here is the first.

Earlier this week my Mom told me that she hadn't been feeling well for about four days; she has got high blood pressure and is on medication (which she doesn't always take properly) and I figured it was just that acting up. On Wednesday she came over for my Graffiti party, and just walking from our street to our front door she was completely out of breath, she stood at the bottom of the stairs to catch her breath, walked up our stairs and again was completely out of breath. Later in the evening she was mixing up her sentences and slurring her words, by the time she got home the left side of her face was feeling a little numb. NOT NORMAL...sounds like a stroke!

She had already booked an appointment for yesterday (Thursday) with her Doctor. When she arrived at the clinic she explained to him what had happened on Wednesday and he sent her for a ECG. She walked through the hospital to the other side for the test, all along the way having to stop and catch her breath, had the test , then walked all the way back to the clinic on the other side of the hospital. When she handed the Doctor the results he told her to sit in a wheel chair and said that she was going to the ER immediately.

My Mom then called me to let me know, as I was changing Makayla's bum I missed the call and received a message on my cell "Um....it's Mom, I am going to the emergency room right now...uhhh...I guess I'll talk to you later" I had no idea what was going on....FYI don't leave a message like this...EVER!!!!

It turns out that she has a 2nd to 3rd degree AV Node Heart Block and requires a pacemaker. She has been placed on bed rest and we will find out more in a few days!

We didn't do a whole lot today, just hung out at home. Makayla got me some beautiful flowers and a lovely card! I just love my little monkey so much!

*New* Old Posts

For those of you that have actually been following my blog you will have noticed that I started this blog back in January 2010 with a post called First Child. I had kept a written pregnancy journal basically since the day I found out I was pregnant and a few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to post all of those entries on here. Here is the link to the first entry!

Mmmmmm Carrots!

A few days have passed and Makayla had no reaction to the rice cereal, so we could introduce something else! On Thursday Makayla tried carrots for the first time. She didn't like them too much, but she also had them yesterday and today; she seems to quite enjoy them now! More big news about today...this was Daddy's first time EVER feeding Makayla, as she has only ever been breastfeed, and I don't pump so he has never fed her a bottle, and because he works during the day I have been feeding her the rice cereal and carrots up until today! Go Daddy!!

I just love her tiny hands!

Give me some more Daddy!

Mmmmmmm

A little side note about rice cereal - I called the health clinic yesterday because Makayla hasn't pooped since starting it, the nurse told me that it contains no fibre at all and it totally plugs babies up, especially if they have only ever breastfeed. She said that you should only feed rice cereal for a few days to see if your baby has a reaction to it, basically to find out if they are allergic to grains, the to switch to oatmeal or barley cereal. So next we will introduce oatmeal.

Yesterday I also introduced Makayla to a sippy cup; this was her first time drinking water and it seems as though she isn't really into it!

Before I Was A Mom

This poem has been circulating through emails for a while, I had seen it before yet never actually read it, I would just deleted it. I received it from a friend this week and it is just so true !!

Before I was a Mom
I made and ate hot meals.
I had unstained clothing.
I had quiet conversations on the phone.

Before I was a Mom,
I slept as late as I wanted
And never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was Mom
I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words of lullabies.

Before I was a Mom
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom
I had never been puked on
Pooped on
Spit on
Chewed on
Peed on
Or pinched by tiny fingers

Before I was a Mom
I had complete control of:
My thoughts
My body
And my mind.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child
So that doctors could do tests
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
When I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
Could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a Mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small
Could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay
I had never known the warmth
The joy
The love
The heartache
The wonder
Or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

First Time Eating Solids

So today was a bit of a sad day for me...Makayla tried eating rice cereal for the first time, it was so cute, but it means she really is growing up. She wasn't quite sure what to think of it; the first mouthful she shook her head, almost violently, then swallowed, looked at me with disgust, then slowly a smile appeared. By about the third mouthful she was a pro!
