I Miss You!

Now this may seem a little strange to some, or maybe not? I miss my friends. Now let me make this clear, this is not because my life has changed since becoming a new mom, what I really mean is that two of my closest girlfriends have moved, and not just to the next city, but one to Quebec City and the other to Phoenix (one is coming on 7 years and the other is coming on 4 years). So it's not like I can just hop in the car, take a drive and go visiting! With being so far from each other, two of us having new babies, and one busy with work and life in general, it is hard to keep in touch as much as we would like. Even if a month passes before we chat again the conversations just flow. I have to say that I am one of those people who have few very close friends. My opinion, I guess, is why waste so much time and energy on keeping tons of relationships going when many of them aren't meaningful or genuine anyway. In the end it won't matter how many friends you have but how many really meant something to you! I love you girls!

Coupons!!!!

I have never in my life used coupons; I would clip them from the paper or pick them up in a store, but then I would end up throwing them in the garbage! Now that I am on mat leave, saving every penny helps. My first coupon shopping trip saved me $37.98. I also price matched and that saved me approximately another $24.00! This picture shows everything I bought:

I only paid $23.03 ($12.59 of which was the vitamins) so everything else only cost $10.44! I am keeping track of my savings for the rest of the year starting now, with a goal of $1,000.00. This will only include coupons/store savings cards and not the price matching; however I may change this to include both later on. Wish me luck....

Happy 99th Birthday Grandma!

Today is my Grandma's 99th Birthday! For as long as I can remember no matter what the occasion, my Grandma has said "If I can't eat it I don't want it"! So we celebrated and ate Chinese food! I'm not sure how many people get to meet their Great Grandparents, but I can tell you if they do, most are not 99! She is definitely the oldest person I have ever met. I am so thankful that Makayla has been able to meet her Great Grandma, it really means alot to us! We are making sure to take lots of pictures, because that is all Makayla will have to remember her by. We told Grandma that she had better make it till next year, because then we will have a huge party for her....she just laughed.

Up & Down

Makayla has really taken to smiling and laughing now and she seems to love this "Up & Down" thing that I do with her! The other night I was doing it, Daddy grabbed the camera so I thought he was going to take a picture of her smiling in the "Up" position, so I kept holding her there. I turned to him and said "Are you going to take a picture?", he nodded. Little did I know he was actually taking a video....enjoy!

Gaining Strength

For the past few weeks Makayla has been pulling her self up into a sitting position when I have her semi laying down. Well today she pulled herself up and actually sat there....for about 30 seconds before doing a face plant! I just can't get over how proud she looks! Mommy was proud too!

Makayla has been getting really restless lying on her back, yet she still doesn't love being on her tummy. When she is playing on her mat she can move around by doing a 180 and also by getting on her side, which she often does. Recently she has been trying to roll over, mostly when she is on the change table. Today she nearly made it, but when she couldn't figure out how to get her arm out she got really upset, rolled to her back again and started screaming....

The Mum Test

I read this today and thought it was pretty good!!

I was out walking with my 4-year-old daughter today. She picked something up off of the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took it away from her and I asked her not to do that. 'Why?' my daughter asked. 'Because it's been on the ground; you don't know where it's been, it's dirty and probably has germs' I replied. At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked,'Mum, how do you know all this stuff? You are so smart.' I was thinking quickly and replied, 'All Mums know this stuff. It's on the Mum Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mum.' We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.'Oh.....I get it!' she beamed, 'So if you don't pass the test you have to be the dad.' 'Exactly,' I replied with a big smile on my face.

4 Months Today

Makayla is 4 months today and as each month goes by I get a little more sad (don't get me wrong I love how she is growing and learning things and changing so much, but it still makes me sad). I don't think I will ever stop saying this....she is growing too quickly. On Wednesday I took her for her 4 month shots and I thought I was going to cry. I was dreading taking her there, having to hold her down while they stick both of her legs is just awful. Well she did really well, she definitely did not like getting her needles (2 in one leg and 1 in the other), but she is starting to pay attention to toys so when the nurse tried to distract her from crying with a rattle, it actually worked! That made Mommy happy! On Friday she had her 4 month check up, the Doctor didn't have too much to say...she is happy, healthy and tiny! She is in the 25Th percentile so he said that he will be keeping an eye on her size, but other than that she is pretty good. If you refer back to a post I made a while back about her lovely bowel movements, I did try going off of dairy for a couple of weeks and it didn't really change anything, so I started to eat it again. Anyway, the Doctor said that if she still has the mucous at six months he is going to refer us to a gastrointestinal specialist. I am really hoping that it clears up on its own really soon.

Makayla has figured out how to get herself from a sitting position on the couch onto her tummy...it is scary because she does it so quickly and if your not watching she might fly right off. The other night she did it right beside Daddy and you can tell by the look on his face he wasn't expecting it! By the look on Makayla's face she was very proud of herself!
